Go-Live Was Supposed to Be the Beginning

Every ERP business case promises the same thing eventually: better data, faster decisions, measurable ROI. Most of those promises get written before a single screen of the new system has been configured — and most of them quietly stop being tracked the moment the project team moves on to the next thing.

Eighteen months after go-live, it’s common to find an organisation sitting on a platform that captures more data than it ever did before, and using almost none of it to make a decision it wasn’t already making a different, slower way.

Data Collection Is Not Data Activation

The gap between having data and using it well is where most post-implementation value quietly disappears. Common patterns:

  • Reports get built because a stakeholder asked for them once, not because anyone still reads them.
  • Dashboards report activity — tickets closed, transactions processed — rather than outcomes: cost avoided, service level improved, risk reduced.
  • The people best placed to act on the data don’t have access to it, or don’t trust it, because nobody validated it after go-live.

None of this is a failure of the platform. Most modern ERP systems are more than capable of the analytics being asked of them. The gap is in the discipline of turning captured data into decisions somebody actually acts on.

What Optimisation Actually Looks Like

A genuine post-implementation optimisation review starts by asking what decisions the organisation needs to make better, then works backward to the data and reporting required to support them — rather than starting with whatever the system already produces and hoping it’s useful. That typically means:

  • Retiring reports nobody reads, and building a small number that map directly to decisions leadership actually makes.
  • Validating data quality at the source, not just at the report — bad inputs make even the best dashboard misleading.
  • Re-testing the original business case against what’s actually been delivered, and being honest about the gap.
  • Building the habit of reviewing platform value on a regular cycle, not just once at go-live and once when something breaks.

The Value Was Always There — It Just Needs Activating

Most organisations don’t need a new system to get more value from their technology investment. They need a structured, independent look at the one they already have, and a disciplined plan to close the gap between the data being collected and the decisions it should be informing.

Bhani Consulting’s Post-Implementation Optimisation & Value Realisation engagements help organisations turn an already-live platform into the return on investment the original business case promised.
